HERO HONDA KARIZMA REVIEW
Posted by Sanjeev on 2 September, 2006
The HERO HONDA KARIZMA was the first real sports bike to be launched in INDIA and although initial prices were really high, the response was great and the CBZ’s styling looked childish alongside it’s elder sibling, the KARIZMA.The bike was targetted at the higher end of buyers who were eager on getting a good sports bike at a reasonable rate in INDIA.The KARIZMA addressed all those who had a passion for speed and styling and head-turning looks. One of the best looking bikes around in INDIA then and now.Although the PULSAR is being considered as a competition to this BEAUTY,you will come to a conclusion that the PULSAR 180 DTS-i doesn’t even stand a chance against the HERO HONDA KARIZMA.This review concentrates on
- LOOKS AND STYLING
- RIDE COMFORT
- RIDE AND HANDLING
- SWITCH-GEARS AND INSTRUMENTATION
- ENGINE PERFORMANCE
- FUEL EFFICIENCY
- FINAL VERDICT

Each section will have it’s own rating and the overall rating and tester’s notes will be provided at the end of the review.JET SET GOOOOO……
- LOOKS AND STYLING
The first thing anybody would notice in the KARIZMA is the styling aspect of the bike. The immensely aerodynamically efficient lines on the bike will catch you off guard.Especially when you take into account the amount of effort put into the design of the front fairing which incorporates/houses the indicators, two air pockets on either side and the head lamp. The fairing is not a full one which can be seen on SPORTS BIKES but nevertheless it was never before there on any INDIAN BIKE.Except for the ADRENO which was one dumb bike.Worsht possible DESIGN.Gave the feeling of riding a bike designed for ROAD RASH games.Yuck.Then the lines are amazing and extends into the fuel tank.Which has recesses for the rider’s legs. The tank doesn’t look big like the PULSAR’s bulky tank but it holds 15lts of fuel. And the tail-light design needs some mention over here.As is the case with most of HERO HONDA’s bikes, the tail part is one
that catches the eyes of the on-looker the most. The KARIZMA’s tail section isnt an exception. It is equally popular wid all and you can even see them fitted onto PULSARS and other bikes too.The tail light is a split one.And the lenses are brilliant.Wow!!!Then come the trapezoidal headlamp unit up front.Illumination is brilliant which is unmatched by any bike in the country. The guide lamps are superb and borrowed from the ROYAL ENFIELDS.A nice addition though. The first bike other than the ENFIELDS to use the 2 guide lamps above the headlamp unit. The silencer/exhaust tip is mounted in a really sporty manner and gets an almost slash-cut finish. It is chrome plated and gold coloured. The pipes for the exhaust are powder coated in black.
MY RATING : 9 / 10
- RIDE COMFORT
The confort on this bike or shall I call it a beast is awesome. The sporty position of the seat offers the best possible seating position for the rider although the pillion seat could have been a little bit more longer.Even on long journeys, the back support is splendid and the front shock-absorbers do a splendid job of damping the vibrations. The rear shock-absorbers are perfect for INDIAN ROAD conditions which mostly consist of pot-holes and speed breakers. The rear rider’s comfort levels aren’t all that great and could have done with some more thinking and concentration on that aspect. There a few chinks in the armour of this wonderful monster. The foot-pegs for the pillion rider are placed a little too high for comfort. And there is a mark on the front mud-guard everytime you hit a pot-hole because the number plate hits the mud-guard and makes a mark on it.
MY RATING : 8 / 10
- RIDE AND HANDLING
Well if you wanted for a bike which you could rely on at all speeds,it is the KARIZMA.Relentless and impeccable on straights and cornering. The bike stands firm on its feet even @ speeds reaching up to 130kmph.There is not a single twitch. The skimpy rear tires of 100/90 spec could be upgraded to 4.00″ MICHELINS race tread-ed ones. The skimpy company fitted rear offers lower levels of grip but as always said,it is what the bike was built for.The company fitted tires will give the least drag and highest possible efficiencies under normal driving conditions in city and on highways. The ride is superlative and the braking is simply terrific. The bike can come to a standing halt in around 30m from 60kmph in around 2-3 secs. And the bike does twitch at the rear if too much of braking is applied. The braking is to be as gradual as possible. The brake pads wear out slower than when you brake hard all the time.It is also advisable to keep atleast 3 cars gap to the vehicle ahead in dry conditions and atleast 8-10 vehicles gap during the rainy season. And well the handling of the KARIZMA in the wet tarmac is as good as that when it is dry.The braking efficiency is hampered to an extent though due to the water film being embedded on the tire treads and the braking distances increase considerably. The Corners can be attacked with tenacity and the bike will respond with aplomb. The bike is simply terrific. There is no competition for the KARIZMA among the BIKES in this aspect.Although the ENFIELDS corner and are much more stable than the KARIZMA.It can be said that it is unexpected of a bike of INDIAN origin to have such high capabilities of handling and cornering.A highly reliable bike in all situations.
MY RATING : 9 / 10
- SWITCHGEAR AND INSTRUMENTATION
The next thing that comes to mind is the quality of the switch-gears.The positioning of the switchgear is just about perfect with a sense of usability. The blinder switches are placed superlatively and the horn, indicator(push cancel type),choke lever are all placed on the left side and the electric start and light switch is on the right side.
As for INSTRUMENTATION,it is a superb three pod instrument cluster. The first ever digital instrumentation on any INDIAN bike.A digital indiacator for the fuel levels,ODO and an in-built digital clock find their place in the DIGITAL INSTRUMENTATION.The speedometer and tachometer are anologue and are well placed. The neutral and high-beam indiacators are positioned on the speedometer dial. The displays are backlit in Orange lights and are well visible at all times of the day/night.The speedometer is the most accurate on available in the country. It shows the exact speeds till 100kmph.After that it varies by a small value of 2-3kmph which is highly negligible compared to the speed one’s travelling. What the buyer gets in one helluva informative instrument cluster.
MY RATING : 10 / 10
- ENIGINE PERFORMANCE
Another wonderful part of any bike or automobile for that instance has to be the motor on which the vehicle thrives on.In this case, it is 17BHP 223cc SINGLE CYLINDER ENGINE from the stables of HONDA,who are possibly the best engine manufacturers world-wide.The motor doesn’t disappoint those who feel a gush of blood flowing in their veins.Open the throttle up and she’d fly to 60kmph in around 5 secs and with a top whack of around 130kmph(real road conditions,no delta V-BOX USED), the speed lovers will have a splendid time with this beautiful beast/monster.The most power being developed in 3rd gear.So if you are dragging with somebody, just kick her into the 3rd at around 4000rpm and vrooom. The competitor is a speck of dust and eating your dust already. The gear shifts are smooth and silky. The shift lever is a sporty one.
And has a 1 down 4 up sports-bike like shift pattern. The motor is silky smooth across all bands of power and never shows signs of tiring and goes on and on and on.It seems as if you still have loads of power even at speeds of 100kmph.Zooming past other cars like the zen and 800 on highways is simple with this bike.Jus open your throttle up and she’d be ready to respond to your calls. The idling speed of the engine is best set around 1200rpm after running the engine in idle for 5 mins.At this idling speed, the optimum performance can be attained with optimum fuel efficiency.
MY RATING : 10 / 10
- FUEL EFFICIENCY
A bike built for power and not just power. But RAW POWER,scintillating speeds shouldn’t be brought into the topic of fuel efficiency. But the first thing that gets noticed by others is the fuel efficiency of superbly styled bikes.Well this beauty returns a mileage of 43-45kmpl on steady driving at 60kmph in city conditions. And atleast 47kmpl on highways on maintaining 80kmph speed. As for those who doubt these figures,I cannot do anything bout your astonishment or amazement with which you are reading that a 223cc bike returns 45kmpl in the city conditions.Well gentlemen it is the truth. But the main important things are that you shouldn’t open up the throttle and try speeding away.Gear shifts and acceleration should be gradual.A smooth driving style with minimal gear shifts is to be followed.
MY RATING : 10 / 10
- FINAL VERDICT
Well for all the initial rough roads that this wonderful piece of man-made machinery travelled through, people would have thought the journey would be over sooner rather than later.BUt then the LEGEND LIVES ON to conquer the hearts and lives of many a guy/gal.This is one piece of amazing machinery one can ever get to imagine in the days of the PULSARS and UNICORNS.And with the recent drop in prices for the KARIZMA,this is one bike that is worth more than what you pay.The bike is expected to be upgraded sooon. And the bike is supposedly going to be sporting FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM,MONO-SHOCK SUSPENSIONS AND MANY MORE.So watch out for the hidden competition. Most of the people think that the PULSAR 220DTSF-i will prove stiff competition for the PULSAR.Well that’s how far you guys who are BAJAJ lovers can afford to get.The WORLD’s LARGEST MANUFACTURER ain’t gonna sit and watch the PULSARS attack the MONSTER.The KARIZMA ROCKS whatever be the situation, whatever be the competition.KING OF THE INDIAN ROADS.
MR.MAJESTIC IS THE WINNER BY A WHOPPING MARGIN.PRESENT COMPETITION ISN’T EVEN CLOSE.
HERO HONDA SURE GOT THEIR TICKETS RIGHT.AND THE KARIZMA IS A SURE WINNER IN EVERY OWN RIGHT.And expect a rise in levels of competition with the arrival of the PULSAR 220DTSFi,YAMAHA’s 250cc bike and a possibility of a big bike from TVS too. It’s going to be stiff competition by all means and hoping for a fight back from HERO HONDA.
OVERALL RATING : 9.5 / 10
TESTER’S NOTES
Optimal Gear shifts:(Ain’t from the manual for those shit heads who think it is) >:)
1st——0kmph to 15kmph
2nd—–15kmph to 30kmph
3rd—–30kmph to 40kmph
4th—–40kmph to 50kmph
5th—–50kmph to 80kmph
All gear shifts are best done when the tacho reaches 3600-4000rpm.Never let the rpm drop below 2000rpm for optimum performance.
DRAWBACKS/FLAWS:
- Number plate hits the mud-guard while encountering pot-holes.
- Cold start isn’t all that an easy affair.Needs a considerable amount of choking.
- Position of rear foot pegs.
- Cost of front fairing.(Costs 945.Rs,300.Rs,949.Rs each for left center and right pieces respectively..It is a three piece fairing)
- Very feeble horn. Not audible at all.
- The company fitted rear tires can get a bit skiddy under heavy braking.
HOPE THE REVIEW WAS A PLEASURE TO READ.DRIVE SAFE.DRIVE WITH A SMILE.
JET SET GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ummm… what is this? Don’t tell me its a review dude.. it’s more like a pathetic song of praise for the Karizma! I love bikes ( who dosen’t!) and I know quality when I see a bike. I waited for the Karizma, like a madman..I used to dream about the bike and me owning.. Auto magazines and websites were ripe with expectations so high.. Everybody was expecting a bike of superb styling and class.. And lo… one day there was the AD on the last page of The Hindu… Show me a good bike and I’ll practically drool at it.. but …. the Karizma didn’t inspire me.. The styling was different.. but when you are in a period where Ninja’s and GSXs held you in a spell for their aweeeeeesome designs.. you expected more from a company who collaborated with somebody like HONDA! It was a big bike allright.. it was damn fast.. allright.. styling???? Come on now.. you know the truth! A Pulsar.. with its aggresive stance was (and still is ) more pleasing to the eye than a Karizma..any day!
I ride my friends’ Karizmas ( 4 of em own Karizmas and the rest Pulsars) often.. Handling is truly unbeatable.. And the 223 CC engine definitely beats the hell out of ya.. Superb cornering and braking abilites.. Comfort too.. And innovative gear lever.. first time I saw something like that.. The end can is definitely something to talk about.. good finish.. the tail lights too.. even die hard Pulsar loyalists can’t resist swapping their originals for one from the Karizma.. THE BEST BIKE for all those long rides (not talking abt the cruisers) …only for another couple of months!
Come January and all you Karizma fanatics are gonna be crying tears and blood! The Pulsar DTS-Fi wont be a match for the Karizma??? Whoa you got it all wrong man.. Have you noticed that almost all Auto Mags have often cited that the Pulsar 180 and Karizma are almost on the same plane of performance?? And do you know the finishing sentence of the review of Pulsar DTS-Fi in Overdrive?? “Competition from Karizma? It isn’t even on the same planet!” Haha! So you better take back your final verdict..
I’m gonna waste space talking about the new Pulsars features..I’ll let the bike do the talking!
A good attempt at a review.. loved your language.. loved your style..And photos were awesomely perfect..but then.. a good Auto journo should be loyal to biking and not the brand.. you should have been more unbiased..
PS: Lots of spelling mistakes .. please do correct em!

brothers i love bikes and i drove all the latest bikes launched in india i took part in 2004 palace ground races where i drove a honda1000(mine),hayabusa,ninja…also a karizma and a pulsur180 so categorically if you ask me the karizma is the winner always it has the same feeling when you ride a superbike it has the control, style, power(ofcourse as per the price) so karizma is a winner always so bajaj needs to improve a lot more on its engeering….and who cares of spelling when you move fast look good and safe…happy riding

@diwa:
Well I would rather recommend you ask the HERO HONDA company guys if there’s a fuel injected upgraded KARIZMA round the corner somewhere.
Of all the bikes you’ve mentioned the CBZ is ruled out right away considering it’s old fashioned and looks outdated.
Of the KARIZMA and PULSAR, I’d recommend the PULSAR only if you want to be one among the chunk of public who own and ride the PULSAR.If you do go for a PULSAR it’s the 180 DTS-i that you should go in for.
And if you want to be a stand out and a crowd puller, the KARIZMA definitely is the bike to go for.IT scores over the PULSAR in almost all the aspects except for the cost of the spares(fairings especially). The HERO HONDA dealership and after-sales service is the BEST.And at Rs.74,000(approx.) on-road,it is the best value for money bike you could afford.Considering that the tinier PULSAR comes at just a shade under 70,000.Rs on-road.
SO I would strongly recommend you go in for a KARIZMA.
And if you want to check out the PULSAR DTSFi, it is going to be launched anytime in the next 2 months. So it is really a tough market out there. As of now the KARIZMA is the best bike available.
So cheers.HAPPY RIDING DIWA..
Thank you for visiting my space.Keep visiting.

hi guys i read a lot about the karizma pulsar competitions on this page and what i wanna say is that pulsars stand no where to karizma (as i have both pulsar180,dtsi and karizma} believe me pulsars could never get ahead of karizma after all its MIGHTY HONDA V\S desi babu bajaj.SO NO WAIT AND WATCH FUNDAS APPLICABLE GUYS.
Sanjeev said
@DIWA
There is certainly a bike rolling out from the HERO HONDA stables early next year.Watch out.It may be anything.Hero Honda might surprise everyone else. You can even expect an upgraded KARIZMA to be out.But that is highly improbable.Look to the CBZ if u wanna know bout upgrades. If it is gonna be a bigger meaner machine,It will definitely come to kick PULSARs royally…
Well and truly BAJAJ have taken a slight step ahead in terms of launching of their new model. But my case lies when and where HERO HONDA launch their new model.
So Watch out.You may be totally unaware of anything from HERO HONDA..
@PRABUDH
Yeah bingo….Right ho….PULSARs dont have a small chance against HERO HONDA’s KARIZMA!!!!!!!
NOT EVEN CLOSE….
apoorva said
well mr sanjeev U r right Bajaj has no chance against a hero honda. But ur wrong in case of a cbz,its new * range looked a hell lot better than a pulsar & it does catch around 14.8bhp@9000rpm{my real exprience with the bike}.it was abt 120kmph.Only thing tht drives a cbz back is its mileage because my bike delivers 35-40 at 100kmph.and as far as my knlodge is new cbz sports fi is abt 250 cc.and the karizma will be droped by the company.& it will be launched next year around 500cc fi system . so I hope ur looking 4wrd 2 tht.
Sanjeev said
@APOORVA
I dont think a 500cc will ever make it over to INDIA…
As for the CBZ sports Fi, the 250cc spec is on the cards..but then the major concern would be how much better will the aggressive styling get than on the KARIZMA.The KARIZMA is the most aggressive bike from all angles among the present set..And the PULSAR DTSFi sucks from the side and top and the front to an extent…The KARIZMA ROCKS…
the CBZ’s best aspect is the rear end.I have seen no CBZ having the tail changed like on PULSARS and other bikes……Same with the KARIZMA.And the CBZ* didn’t live to the expectations of the JUNTA…I expected a few major external changes and there was only the CLEAR LENS HEADLAMP and different paint-job+stickering which I didn’t like and appeal to me @ all.
Well as for the CBZ mileage, you shouldn’t expect a 50kmpl mileage @ 100kmph.The best can be derived from any bike/vehicle driving with a constant throttle @ 60-70kmph.That should make your bike deliver around 45-50+kmpl easily…Just try it out.
My KARIZMA gives me a constant 40kmpl riding her @ 60-65kmph with occasional speeds of 100kmph reached…
Try changin the fuelling station if your mileage continues to be low even after measures..

up till an extent u r right. BUt u know bajaj has already set a plant at northern India for producing 500cc bikes.even the news is out tht they r patching up again with Kwasaki for such bikes{confirm sources}.also bajaj has clearly said at the pess tht they will launch a 500+ cc bike next year.and my cbz* delivers me exactly 37 kmpl@100kmph so iam satisfied but if it can be increased plz tell me abt it.yes u r right i 2 expected a bit more frm hero honda in cbz* but they hav learnt frm their mistake and r abt 2 deliver somthing unexpected in new cbz thts 4 sure.their seems 2 be a PROBLEM IN BY BIKE as the bikes engine gets hotter the top speed keeps on increasing.it flies to 115kmph and then it keeps on inceasing up till u can hold the throtlle.the bike just does’t gives up and keeps on acclerating.is this some kind of fault. i hav told and showed showroom mechanics . but they were just amazed.even the company engg was able 2 do nothing abt it does it effect my bikes engine.

hey guys,
i have bought a red karizma a month ago.And i have ridden pulsar 150/180 both.what i feel that p150 shud not be discussed at all.p180 is a good bike to ride(hell lot better that 150),gives u a sense of stability even at 100kmph(not to mention, karizma obviously gives this feel). But the worst part for pusar is that its just so common ,u can seee them anywhere n everywhere(and no noticeable diff. in 150 n 180).
Its a matter of SHEER personal choice that never liked pulsar looks.Karizma’s looks are unbeatable, its not so common also,so its a head turner.people often ask u about the price, average n top speed in the middle of the road(rarely this happens for pulsars nowadays).I bought Karizma even it was expensive then p180 just coz it has stunning looks n power.
u just can’t compare it with ninjas etc(80k n 5 lakh is no comparision man). And if wanna compare it still with then how can anybody think pulsars in this comparison.
At last its just ur personal choice hwich bike u shud go for,180 is also gud but its hell lot common. If u want to get noticed then go for karizma, thats what i will suggest.
apoorva said
Why r u guys compareing 150p 180p 2 karizma . U know they do not bt a cbz* in terms of looks and handleing.they can bt a cbz only in mileage.GOT IT.

@Sanjeev it seems ur not visiting the site these days . well i hope u will ans my queries shortly

@APOORVA:
Well the problem u addressed is quite amazing.Have you ever tried till wat speeds the bike can go???
And well if there is a problem in the piston-cylinder seatings and the carb alone will these kinda probs arise. So get ur HH service centre to look at the aspects fully. And just call up the HH OFFICE and ask them as to what can be done.
I truly believe that if this keeps on happening, there might me unwanted wear and tear in your engine components.
And have you modified anything in your bike???
Like the chain sprockets or the cylinder bore or something?huh?
And well the 37kmpl you are getting is alright mileage.I think if you drive with a constant throttle @ around 60-70kmph,it should return somewhere around 45kmpl…
Jus give it a shot. You would be amazed at the difference. And all HH bikes provide good pleasure and comfort for slow speed driving and the refreshment you can derive from this would be gr8.Not to mention, you would be on the safer side of the LAW…

Pulsars are hit only b’cos of looks, sexy ads and hype. HH are more reliable and better than Bajaj. A year old Discover125 will fetch you not more than 22K even if evaluated by your own Bajaj dealer !!! A five year old Splendor sells for 30K. That’s a lot difference. Also Bajaj bikes come with noisy Gearbox, Clutch issues, Flase neutrals bad workmanship etc. , Bajaj service is very very poor !!!

New revamped CBZ is on the way, it’ll be packed with new features and HH have already finalized advertising agent for this bike. The LEGEND is back, hope back with a BANG !!!
Ofcourse Pulsars will get newer looks, it’s sad that many young people still buy and swear by looks. Apache & Pulsars have big issues in different departments which are serious. But still thay sell, ask young guys they say acceleration and looks !!!.
HH’s NEW CBZ will make come-back this Diwali.
Welcome back “The Legend”
Thanks,

guys new pulsar 180 dts-i launched with sporty rear looks and all new digital speedometer fuel indicator and not with much changed front visor.the bike has an anolouge tachometer.this is a previw of dts-i fi 4sure a big mistake by bajaj it has revealed its cards. Now if HH was not planing 2 give yhe new cbz digital speed, fuel, indicators now they will also 4sure HH has a cbz sports 180 fi coming.MR snjeev i on the aero drum took my cbz* 2 130 kmph the bike was willing 2 go further even the sound of the bike was very Queit and amzing but when the bike touches 129-130 kmph the handle starts big time bublleing so it is immposible 2 go 4 more but the throttle if pushed the bike is willing 2 go even more I have modified nothing in my bike except the 5th gear box wheel, actually i had a yahama r6s gear wheel which was of the same size tht of a cbz,and when i brought my bike 1month later i broke its 5th gear wheel as i was trying 2 push the bike 2 its limit. So it was replaced by yahama 5th gear wheel. thts it even the company engineer has taken down the stats of my bike and has assured he will look after the bike. Also have useen the new pulsar 180 .
Sanjeev said
yes I’ve had a look of the new pULSAR 180dtsi….As you said, the new thing is the rear.
And well did you check if the YAMAHA r6’s cog was of the same gear ratio or was it a different one…
If you didnt know bout gear ratio, then it is the ratio of the teeth on the driven and driver gear sprockets..
huh????
And if properly replaced, the CBZ can top 130kmph but you say that your bike still has somethin left in its arsenal to go further which doesn’t fail to amaze me.
Just check out if the GEAR RATIOS are matched properly.
apoorva said
@sanjeev
I had checked the size of the wheelie but i did not checked the teeth and at the show room no body has the idea of gear ratios I guess tht is the problem while replacing the mechanic must have tamperd the ratios of the gear box.
Also did u had a look at the new speedometer and fuel gauge of pulsar 180,the company is calling it the sports version of the bike, and in my view this is a huge mistake by bajaj, they have revealed their cards and now not only HH,tvs can also take advantage of this.but the looks of only speedometer was the one i found intresting in the bike so wht do u think of the new spedometer of the bike.
Sanjeev said
@APPORVA
Well s that should do it.Check your gear ratios.
And as for the new so called sports edition,I jus saw one in motion today…
Kicked the hell outta it.He was gazin @ ma rear instead of it bein me behind his…
It is totally silly of all these PULSAR riders to think they can match d KARIZMA on the roads. No way.Unless the driver on the KARIZMA is one helluva DUD @ driving….
And the speedo is d only plus point as far as the new model is concerned. And they have surely taken a cue outta d KARIZMA digi displays after so so long.
And TVS will also be geared up to take the fight to the PULSARs.The APACHE has carved a huge niche for itself in the market. An amazing drive I should admit and @ 57,000.Rs(On-ROAD approx.),it is the best VFM package available. And delivers more than wat you pay for it.

Guys, Sincere advice for all guys going for 150cc+ bikes, please wait for the new revamped CBZ, it’s power will compete with Pulsar. It’s riding quality cannot be matched, it’s braking cannot be matched, it’s reliability cannot be matched, i hope HH lowers the price this time around.
It’s shame that Bajaj accepts quality of parts with even 70-75% whereas HH will not accept even if it is less than 99%. These facts are out through some auto ancillary units around Pune/Delhi. That’s the reason we have bad and good quality pulsar on roads. So guys, don’t look at rear, side panels etc., HH will give beautiful engine & gearbox for the new CBZ. Please wait and welcome back the legend !!

Pranav is right, I have bought low profile Achiver after riding Pulsar for 2 years, I gave Pulsar to my cousin in Mysore. Acheiver is a very decent package with same Unicorn Engine & Gearbox. But Achiever gives me 55 kmpl in B’lore traffic, I’ve done 5,300 kms and the bike is simply great in all aspects. Call it Unicorn with twin suspension + better mileage !!. So if Pranav is true that new CBZ is coming then I guess that will be the best 150cc without any doubt. Pulsar & Apache can just eat dust in front of new CBZ (if released as per expectations). Also, I may be wrong if I say Apache & Pulsar will eat dust in front of Achiever!!. But guys ride this machine to believe. The quality is good and should last like any other HH bike say 7 years. Pulsars & Apaches are fragile pieces & will last 2 years max. I have no problem with HH since I changed from Pulsar to Achiever. HH is for reliability. I also welcome the Legend back, hope Bajaj produces quality bikes like HH and not bikes with HYPE & FALSE ADVERTISEMENTS !!!

Pulsars have many problems,
1. Gear box issues : Gear slipping, false neutrals are very common problem/s.
2. Clutch Plate/ Clutch cable : Expect to replace these stuff even before 10,000 kms.
3. Overall quality of parts : Very poor
4. Weight distribution is bad + Bad braking : Lots of accidents & on-the-spot deaths.
5. Inferior service (not even fit for washing!!)
Please avoid Pulsars, go for Unicorn, Achiever…hmm wait for the new CBZ !!

lol….one of the funniest articles i’ve read online. i can see loadsa pulsar bashing. let me just tell you guys that the Karizma sounds very good when you talk about the cc rating….but it produces only .5 bhp more than the pulsar…..what a bloody shame!!! 180cc vs 225cc and the p180 is atleast able to keep up if not cream the karizma
the p225 is gonna kick some serious ass…..the looks i agree suck a little but who the f*** even cares!!!

whatever u guys say abt pulsar, i care a damn, i no wht are its potentials and capabilities. I already have pulsar 180 and my cousin has Karizma. i do agree that in looks karizma is better but performance wise i challenge U, pulsar is always better..

Well as for the PULSAR beatin the KARIZMA, it’s all down to the guy who’s drivin the PULSAR and who’s on d KARIZMA…
IF u got a gr8 driver on the PULSAR and a GOOD driver on the KARIZMA,am damn sure that the KARIZMA wud knock the PULSAR out comfortably in the 60+ region
up to 60,the INTIAL pick up of the PULSAR’s better I do agree..But after that it’s all KARIZMA>…

Hi Sanjeev,
I have a Karizma 3 months old and proud to own it.
I have some questions for you…request suggestions…
>>I have a mileage of 35, but after I read your ‘Optimal Gear shifts’, i’m gonna try and see if i get a 40+ on my bike….
>>Can you plz sepcify the Vechile free service details…the manual is not clear on this
>> What about a full fairing for the bike…again mileage point of veiw…
>>There the Castrol AD talking liquid engineering…what’s this for…will it increase the bike’s performance..can i change my engine oil during warranty period…
>>Require spec’s for the rear tyre change please, do i need a front wheel change too…some say that a fat tyre brings down milege…?

Shiv
Sanjeev said
Well
First things first…
FREE SERVICE
The free services are to be done @ an interval of 2 months or 2500kms whichever is earlier
The first service alone is before 750kms.And then on at a gap of 2 months.IF you do not give your bike for service within that time and you have any problem wid your bike in the latter stages, the warranty will not apply.
SO better off giving it for periodic servicing once in every 2 months for the first year and even later.
FULL FAIRING
Wel the full fairing doesn’t affect the mileage but yes on long rides and when the engine’s been running for long durations, the bike’s engine gets overheated affecting the performance as this is an air-cooled and not an oil-cooled engine. So if you want to go for looks, you can go for the full fairing.Performance wise NO. A big one tooo..
ENGINE OIL
I strongly recommend you stick to the company recommended oil during the warranty period.I havent checked out any of those oils.I think the oil provided by HH is good and is the best for the bike’s engines as the manufacturer always optimises the engine’s performance based on a standard set of parameters like tire size, oil used, fuel used etc etc.And so it is better to stick to the company oil than going for an after-market one.
TIRES
Well as for tires, there can be an upgrade on the rears and not on the front.
The front tires can’t be upsized since the shocks hug the wheels on either side so close that there isn’t enough room for even a finger to slip thru.
So you better stick to the company provided tires on the front.
As for the rear, there can be an upsize up to 130/70 I guess.
I have fit MICHELIN 4.00″ tires on the rear and the road grip and handling has improved by leaps and bounds.
And yes wider tires reduce the mileage due to increased contact surface of the tires wid the road and thereby creating excess drag.

Hi guys, Peace please,
Ego doesn’t help, when Pulsar was born, Hero Honda learnt the lesson/s that it cannot price bikes very high w/o sufficient reasons. Pulsar sank CBZ silently, but we should also remember, Bajaj bikes are having reliability issues. I have friends who have serious complaints after 15,000 kms even though they are disciplined riders & maintain religiously.
We have to see how XTREME CBZ would be priced with competition. I know new CBZ will win in terms of build quality without any issues. Even the flopped Ambition is built beautifully and one of my friend is getting 55+ kmpl in B’lore city even after riding it 38,000 kms !!!. Bajaj has to improve on quality front in big way. I recently test rided new DIscover at showroom, I had to literaly stop the bike on flyover as It was difficult to change gears from 2-3 !!!

Well mate, the engine sure disappointed me for all my money and time in GOLD..
As for the design cues,I think the rear end is very very aggressive and good looking.Nothin to talk bout in the front part.I do believe there is a PREMIUM SEGMENT BIKE being fitted with the Fi system. And I do believe there is some talk going on in the HH stable cuz as I already said, there are a lot of 250cc bikes comin to INDIA in the coming year from various leading manufacturers like YAMAHA,TVS and BAJAJ.
So my money would be on HH making a move sooner rather than later for a KARIZMA upgrade very soooon….

hi Sanjev,
I had went through all the conversation that you had sugested to other people and I again feel proud to be a HH Customer. I have booked for a Karizma and would be geting it on 28th October. I need to know what are the things we must keep in mind during the First 3-4 months time. I had a HH Passion of model 2003 Sept and I sold it for 26k. It was the best price that i had got for the vehicle, but i now imagine if i had bought a product of Bajaj and used it for 3 yrs i could ‘nt have got 15-20k atleast for the vehicle.
Then First I had booked CBZ Extreme without seeing the bike but when i saw it i was really pissed off. As you all may be knowing the old CBZ was the bike that people would like to have it in their hand but this new version has realy shoked me and it has put me down from the Axpectation that I had from HH.So I did some research in Net and came out with a conclution of Buying Karizma because this is the only Bike of HH that gives me style,Power and Reliability.
Waiting for your Reply

Well cheers mate.CONGRATS on getting a new KARIZMA..Hope u got it 2day.
And as for first 3-4 months, it is all about riding her casually without stressin the engine too much.
DO not exceed 50kmph for the first 1000kms and then for the next 500kms don’t exceed 60kmph.And also no abrupt acceleration pls.Ruins her engine. And also give your bike for servicing as per the manual to a well recognised and good service center.
@AMIT
Well yeah seriously my bike was giving me around 43-44kmpl for the first 4 months.I changed the rear tires to wider ones and now I am getting a constant 40kmpl return in normal CITY conditions.I do undertake one ride a month for 70km on the highway nowadays.Doesn’t really matter.Yes IT DOES>>>
Pity nobody believes me.

Hi Sanjeev,
Thanks for your reply! Now that I’ve decided to go for HH Karizma by Jan ,I’ve started gathering all the important details of maintaining my machine.I’d a conversation with my Dad too ,and obviously like all others the first question from he’s side was the millage. My Dad is really passionate about all kind of vehicles and also very particular about the maintainence.Once he had owned a Yezdi and according to him the performance of an engine can be increased by mixing a bit of engine oil along with the petrol(regradless of 2/4 stroke engine). The proportion for mixing – For 1 litre of petrol about 10ml of Engine oil.By this the friction is reduced and all the parts are finely lubricated thus we can also expect a better millage. This should be done only once in the start when the engine is preparing to set itself.
So is it really ok to add the oil along with the petrol ’cause I dont wont to take any kind of risk with my new bike.Another thing is that recently I joined a HH Karizma community and I came across the following post by one of the Kzma owner’s and need your advice on it-
Whats Mileage(must read)?
Friends here i see several one cries about karizma mileage delivery!!!
guys please note that karizma has got a Cv carb it has to be tuned!
it should be done by hh service men!!
company says karizma will give 35-45 kmpl! well depends on how you drive!!
the carb can be tuned rich fuel?air mix ratio or lean!!
always tune it in such a way that it delivers 35-45kmpl!!
that means a bit on the lean side!!
so that your figure will aleways be above 30 even how rash you drive!!!
after tuning you will certainly feel decrease in the power of your karizma !!! but mileage of 40 above!!
if you want more power you can tune to rich side then your karizma will deliver you 23!!!!!!
hope confusions regardin mileage is over!!!
to get max mileage drive steady at 50 kmpl in the fifth gear
also avoid sudden accelatrtions .
mileage delivery is based on how the engine (carberator is tuned)
also note that not too much lean tuning !! dont tune so that it delivers above 48 kmpl
coz more lean ratio=====>>engine overheating(burnouts or evev valve melting is the sevior case) .
Looking forward for an advice and suggestions
Thanks n Keep Smiling,
Raj

I test rode a CBZ Extreme a couple of days back… The feel of it is awesome…
Happens to be a good creation… It took me 14 secs to rouse the monster from 0 to 90km .. on intermediate ring road at bangalore… I am not a good rider and am sure most other riders will do it well… But I did a few checks and like to discuss it…
At 85Km I decided to bring the bike to 3rd gear and see the barking of it -> Pulled in smoothly …
I tried to pick it up from 20 km on the top gear -> pulled in smoothly…
The swing at some of the majestic circular bends did well
Picked the bike on my foot and did 360 degree turn on my foot fro abt 7/8 turns … awesome feel
I am not sure about milage and otehr stuffs … but surely its great … on the same day i test rode apache / achiever / glamour / zeus … etc etc … they all s**ked infront of this …
i suggest the lovers of karizma who dont have the money (like me:) ) to go for this one ..
it rocks dude … i read a few bad reviews about it .. but still tested it … the only thing i can say about those bad reviews is …. i pity u guys …
hoping for it to releae soon in bangalore … the millenium motors ppl said that the rto approval is due and expected to arrive in atleast another 15 days – 1 month /// thats the most sadening issue .. i cant wait to ride it …
PS .. another issue .. i am planning to buy a blue one … the shop guys told me .. it would take some more time coz theyve got only erad/black ones …

If you want a sporty no mess bike,go for the KARIZMA…
Practically THE BEST bike available in the INDIAN MARKET…You can get the best of all worlds..Comfort,styling,power,performance,etc..
It is priced well now..The only thing is u have to decide is RETRO or METRO…
The latter points out that u r a KARIZMATIC guy…
Else u wanna be different,go for the THUNDERBIRD>>>
I think as of now the KARIZMA is the better bet..The pricing and VFM factor..
The THUNDERBIRD isn’t worth the price u pay for it…

hey guys!..just read through all the reviews and all n it was ok..i guess..@ Sanjeev..dude u should have been more unbiased about the pulsar for an indigenous indian company bajaj to go out from making scooterettes to becoming a full blown bike maker and to rise above strutting around like a proud peacock and makin seasoned competitors to bike manufacturers like honda is a big deal..nonetheless i do agree the karizma taks the cake and chows it down with aplomb when compared to the pulsar 180 but the DTS Fi isn’t out yet so we all better hold our horses..who would have thought the new 150 would send a honda unicorn’s reputation of best engineering levels to the cleaners..its better than hero honda’s CBZ Extreme as well..and that digital speedo..yummy!!!so lets not jump to conclusions before the bike is actually out and dude it is a stunner! i think it looks awesome just wish it was a bit chunkier and bigger.that would really have done hero honda in..we actually need big bikes..not bikes that hav a big bike feel! as most journos so eloquently put it..and please …someone… more value for money!!!! bajaj knows that is what will give them the edge..it has given them the edge over honda and itll keep doing that in the future but god! the day they actually come out with a real big bike like the karizma..hero honda can take a hike..but that said..honda has ben ahead in the game..their glamour fi. was an incredibly clever move to pip bajaj in the game and it has been received very well indeed so now that the waters have been tested..honda have for the first time in their history said outright that they plan a fuel injected karizma..it will im quite sure take the dts fi to the cleaners and then sock it out of the stadium but it would ave taken something quite serious to rattle honda’s cage and open their normally sealed lips about an upcoming product..that is where bajaj holds the ropes still and in their hurry to get the new bike out..i just hope honda don’t make that crucial mistake of being too confident and too fast about it..there just may be a skid ( if i could use a pun ).but i hope honda are level headed in the making of the new bike..it truly may be the best thing to have happened to indian biking in a very long time..and i love yamahas..but the fazer looks stupid when i reckon it comes from the makers of the gorgeous R1. more show to match the claimed go plz…feedback anyone??>

Hi Sanjeev,
Your review was well written! but it was biased….you could have done in detail about the performance figures i.e acceleration from 0 to 100 and the fuel consupmtion has to be realistic I have known many friends whose karizma dosent give more than 35 in city condtion getting 42 is asking for too much…I have a Pulsar 180 dtsi v3 it gives me 42 when i ride it in an insane mode….48 to 50 when in normal mode…
Karizma is good bike….but see the cost when it was launced it was closing at 90 odd something…Pulsar 180 dtsi is at around about 63 thousand when launced….
Karizma has to lower its figure when Bajaj 180 stealed the show…Why they delibrately overpriced it and then now why they have brought it down….this question need to be answered! were the earlier karizma owner were fool who brought it for 90k..
No doubt karizma is better bike but you should also mentioned that is costed 15000 more than 180 dtsi…
Performance figures are same as compared to pulsar 180 dtsi v2…but he fuel consumption is more than atleast 10 to 12 km then 180.
They brought glamour FI just for a name sake they have simply got it from Honda and patched it in glamour so no technology break through…
Why honda is not giving an 180cc engine to cbz because they want to launch it in their own product..
Well bajaj has started manufacturing their own bike from 2001… they have upgraded their product by their own efforts…they dont require any ally like honda or yamaha for the upgrade…Hero honda is manufacturing with honda since 1983… and Honda is is the business from the worldwar II…Please you need to consider this fact while writing it was like an employee of hero honda reviewing karizma….Pulsar have improved their quality day by day….they have improved their gearbox and clutch a lot but it not up to the mark of HH still….Take honda out of the equation then you see what hero can doooo alone!!
For the pulsar 220 FI it dosent look good! because pulsar didnt wanted to do away with their brand i.e pulsar tank..other wise it would have been the best looking bike in india….even glyn kerr was not able to make bajaj to change their mind regarding the tank..
Karizma FI will costing a lot if it wishes the give the same features as like bajaj like real disc led tail lamp and tubeless tyres and the 37mm fron fork…I have seen that bike the front fork is really fat! I bet karizma will be costing 1 lakh if they incorporte those features….and they have to pay royalty to honda as well!
Yamaha 250 fazer will be surely costing 125k i.e damn sure it wont ring a bell in the customers mind! bajaj can bring a two cylinder bike in tht amount….Well your reivew was good you seem to be divinly inclined towards HH like some auto mag testers like in Overdrive

@VITTAL & DINESH:
Well I apologise for being biased towards HHK.But me being a Karizma loyalist,my hands typed in d review wid a bit of heart and mind involved.
I don’t wanna discount that HHK is ahead of present competition, but the future looks a lil bleak I should admit, especially with the new offerings from YAMAHA and TVS and BAJAJ looming large with better equipments and features. But as of now,the HHK is ahead of PULSAR 180DTSi-v2.
The Pulsar isn’t good for tall riders whereas the HHK is suitable for all sorts of riders and also a point to look into is the safety factor which is far greater in the HHK than in the PULSARS.And look into the knee recesses on the KARIZMA and PULSAR.There seems to be no purpose for the PULSAR’s knee recesses on the tank whereas the KARIZMA’s is fully functional and also enhances rider position.
The seating position on the KARIZMA is far ahead of competition. So are the handling, gear box, clutches and brakes.
And I apologise once again for being biased if u think I still am,but this is actuality.
@SYED:
Sorry for such a late reply.
Well u can wait for the PULSAR 225 if u are looking for more features and more vigour.
And if u can’t wait that long, the KARIZMA is the bike for u if you wanna stand alone and be seen in the crowd of PULSARS…

Everyone is prejudiced and has a inclination towards any product or person: I have same with Yamaha RD350, i can debate it the whole day.
and make one feel that RD350 was the best available sports bike ever made: I dont consider HHK and pulsar a SPORTS bike for the simple reason it performance and fuel efficiency.
0-100 in 14.8 seconds
Top Speed : 125 kmph i.e
Fuel Efficiency is 30 to 40 km in city riding
RD350 0-100 in 5.8 seconds
top Speed: I have cracked is 140 in 5th gear, afterthat good sense prevails,
I have ridden karizma hard very hard and even pulsar 180 to the limit…But no one can say that they have tamed RD350…So we cant call 16 bhp bike(including HHK and Pulsar180) a sports bike even 220dtfi take 13.02 to reach 0-100. So it cant be called a sports bike either.

“HH has good future considering bajaj is moving away from 100cc..Bajaj is leader in 125cc,150cc,150cc to 200cc” the big cake in honda is 100cc catagory which HHK hasnt done anything to improve it….why? because the honda dosent welcome hero in upgrading it…What the R&D guys in HH or doin!..Change stickers tweak engines and directly increase the volume of the engine, paint the engine black and put a red coloured spark plug wire in CBZExtreme….Well I have seen this changes what hero honda did…please let me know if there are others….
I was a great fan of YAMAHA, now have lost all the hopes…see their product line CRUX, G5, Fazer, Gladiator…When we drop in their show room, you will find more emphasis and more jazzy picture of john abraham rather than any new bikes…They are going to bring out 150cc or 180cc bike, but look at bajaj a marwadi company has brought 220 fuel injected bike, earlier bajaj used to compete in terms of money but recently they are competing in the technology front too…..YAMAHA will bring 250 fazer when there will be no fossil fuel! Yamaha please listen we need atleast a premium bike so that people can visit your showroom and then they will buy your G5, liberos, fazers, gladiators
TVS: Tvs apache offering is okay…the same fiero engine tweaked to get more BHP and 5th cog added, not technological advances, but anyone who has rode suzuki fiero, will understand what TVS has done to the engine..
Sanjeev said:HHK is ahead of pulsar
180dtsi
“Its right it ahead in term of cc and quality and it has 15000 premium over bajaj then one can agree but sanjeev dont you find karizma less fuel efficient If iam not wrong they are using the same engine config what Honda gave Hero ” i.e a a engine design whose volumetric efficiency can be ranging from 125 to 250cc, i.e CBZ, Ambition, Achiever,CBZx, Karizma….
With all respect to legendry CBZ.. I can say that it didnt had the engine to match it looks and styling…156cc engine and the fuel consumpion was very high for 12.6 Bhp motorcycle, the same design is carried in HHK only block and piston has been changed..
But it is sure that karizma will not be able to compete with bajaj 220 in term of quality and pricing!
Sanjeev said:The Pulsar isn’t good for tall riders whereas the HHK is suitable for all sorts of riders and also a point to look into is the safety factor which is far greater in the HHK than in the PULSARS.And look into the knee recesses on the KARIZMA and PULSAR.There seems to be no purpose for the PULSAR’s knee recesses on the tank whereas the KARIZMA’s is fully functional and also enhances rider position.
The seating position on the KARIZMA is far ahead of competition. So are the handling, gear box, clutches and brakes.
Yes i agree that pulsar is uncomfortable for tall riders but the average height of indian are 5.6 inces…and karizma is not very friendly for short riders though:
Karizma are fuel tank are much better than bajaj.
Handling is better in high speeds but not on our regular traffic, pulsar tend to better in stop go traffic…
Brakes of pulsars has firm bite…pad of karizma are 5 times costlier than pulsars.
Gearing Bajaj has improved a lot and they tend to improve thats a good sign
Sanjeev if you get a chance to test pulsar 220 please test it! I have only whilred its throttle in bajaj probiking pune…it crisp like anything no shuddr no engine jerk, its like a bike from some other planet.

Well july is a long way off..
And I am sure they don’t demand u to book the bike 6 months before hand.
Just wait for the premium segement to open up a lil more which I am sure it will in another 5-6 months. And by then u will have a handful number of bikes which are equally capable of keeping u interested.
Until then,my suggestion is wait…
Wait for a few months.

Sorry for not being able to reply to your queries for a long time now.Was a little busy.
@RAJ:
Well yeah the new KARIZMA is not loaded with the Fuel Injection technology that came loaded on the Glamour 135cc.A big disappointment.
And the graphics are not up to scratch. The old KARIZMA with the plain look was far cooler.
And the availability is dependent on the dealer’s stock.Normally the dealers do not stock a lot of KARIZMAs and mostly they are gone soon.
Check out your local dealer for availability of the old one.Mostly they wouldn’t be having it.

pulsar sucks… the gearbox is shabby, the seat is short… the handle kills your back and while sitting on it makes ur butt jut out like that of a woman wearing high heels, the wheelbase could have been longer …. 180p does not even stand close to ZMA, but there are a few good things about it.. and that’s only when it comes to price…the after sales service is also very bad with pulsar…..i’ve raced a pul 180 with my ZMA, and it does not even come close and its lost after u reach 130kmph. the fuel injection version of ZMA will be launched soon, the seating of new CBZ extreme is even better than that of ZMA and the engine is more silent….well the only competition that’d be worth considering is yamaha but in case it launches a bike in 200cc+ segment….

Guy,
Zma fans, Enjoy your ride.
I bought a Zma last december and I have friends who own pulsar 150s and 180s. You don’t have to bother thinking any competition between these pulsars and Zma. I’ve seen and felt it for myself. It’s as simple as you get what you pay for. Zma is absolute value for money. Ya, weaker horn is an issue. But, does weaker horn can be a deciding factor when you go to buy a byke, anybody?

Hero Honda sales zoom 12% in Feb
(Indian Express Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) In a reversal of fortunes of sorts, two-wheeler market leader Hero Honda, spurred by the success of the refurbished 150cc bike CBZ Extreme, has zoomed ahead of competition, reining in the hectic pace of growth of archrival Bajaj Auto. The market leader posted growth higher than the industry in the first two months this year. Posting sales of 280,515 bikes in February, the company saw a 12 per cent growth even as the industry grew 5 per cent. Importantly, Bajaj Auto, which was eating into Honda’s market share not long ago saw a slump in February as sales dropped by 2 per cent to 171,780 units. Just over six months ago the scenario was starkly different. With the market shifting to the executive segment and the Pulsar and Discover twins ruling the roost, Hero Honda was on slippery ground steadily losing market share as the gap between the two nose-dived to just 37,000 units in September. The festive season, however, witnessed the beginning of a turnaround that continues till this day. With Bajaj struggling with capacity constraints, Hero Honda opened up the gap to over 100,000 units. With CBZ entering the market in October, the market leader has managed to maintain the gap while surging ahead of the competition. “The overall market has not changed much between September and January but what we are seeing today is Hero Honda getting aggressive in the 150cc segment. While Bajaj has lost some ground there, Hero Honda has made inroads while retaining its lead in the voluminous 100-125cc segments,” said an industry analyst. SIAM figures for Sept-January show that in the 125-250cc segment considered to be Bajaj’s forte, the sales have come down from 83,728 to 72,947 units while Hero Honda has grown from 4,759 to 17,072 units. This growth mirrors CBZ’s number, which have gone up from 6,500 in November to around 16,000 in February. While cutting down the deficit in 150cc segment, Hero Honda has held its own in the entry level segment while Bajaj has lost a lot of ground there (See table). “We have gained market share in each of the last three months and CBZ has played a part in that. It has lifted our portfolio and we are now facing supply constraints on the model which has the potential to clock 20,000 units every month. We have done well in the entry level segment as well courtesy the new Glamour,” said Anil Dua, vice-president, marketing and sales, Hero Honda. While the official press-statement of Bajaj says that the performance in February was hampered due to supply constraints, an official admitted that it was competition more than supply that led to the decline. “Hero Honda’s product mix is no longer what it used to be a year ago and they appear to be much stronger now. After that low in the middle of last year they have made a strong comeback,” the official said. Bajaj is already gambling with a totally new game plan of exiting the entry-level segment and elevating further up. With Hero Honda still strong in that segment, Bajaj wants to make its own rules as the battle for the top slot intensifies.

hi! all!
let me tell you all one thing straight! I am pround owner of karizma! after having pulsar for over 3 years and fedup with it! for first 15000 kpm it looks & ride good, after that it give lot of vibration & backpain & not to mention vobiling. At last i sold out the damn pulsar! and got new karizma in Jan 2007. It rides like silk & cheetah. not even a maruti zen & other car cant over take me in NH. now i confidently say this neat, nice, good bike at any given condition. talking about pulsar is waste of time. it is my experience. And one more thing, people talking about horn, why dont take your karizma to your local machanic, he will fix an dual tone horne in a minute or two, that’s all have you to do.

new pulsar DTFi rocks. the rear veiw mirrors, rear disk brakes, seats..they all are awesome. the headlights are the best part of the new bike. where else can u get those features in a 220 cc bike. however, it should have had the mono suspension and flat tyres.right now i am riding pulsar 180 and i am planning to buy the DTSFi the day it launches here in Nepal. Karizma has to do a lot more to compete with Pulsar. and the new CBZ x treme is a waste of money. CBZ xtreme – least stylish bike…

sanjeev,
lots of bajaj bashing.obviously a biased review.yes its true that P220 doesn’t looks better than karizma but in performance it beats the **** out of karizma.just see the loads of goodies seen on it and you will feel all those goodies on karizma chinese fakes.abt mileage its false.period.karizma gives 30-35 km/l in 60km/hr and at 80km/hr forget abt mileage.you don’t hv to justify everything is good whatever you buy.even my new cbzx gives a jarring sound.its side stand supporting rod came off.its speedometer glass has a crack right upto the base.all this in 1 month of purchase.this is quality then we are better off with bajaj.yes engine is good damn good that’s the saving grace.P220 looks sexy in black but black karizma is no match for it.
karizma is in need of serious upgrade and stickering job with weights added saying sporty won’t do.HH has been snoring while bajaj is revving away.the tortoise can’t afford to sleep when when sharks are lurking.obviously competition is good for we customers.make it more unbiased and you will get great reviews.you can do much better.

He He…was that a review or an advertisement. Seems as if the writer is not an adult yet thats why ther’s hardly any sanity in it and only immaturity and excitement. Looks like a 16 yr old kid has been gifted with a Karizma and that’s why he is going all around the world to propagate it. Seriously dude its an interesting review but not a fair or professional one. The points that you have mentioned are right but not all of them. In the end 40% of your post is truth, 30% is excitement(not the matured biker one) and the rest 30% is sheer exaggeration. im sure even HH wont like to call this review as an ad of theirs. Next time try and be fair. I am not supporting Pulsar and I know they have issues but all bikes do. Even superbikes do but that doesnt mean that you make one bike look stratospherically biblical and the other like crap coz aint true in case of Karizma and Pulsar.

For all those who r raving abt the Pulsar Dtsfi…..first of all look at its mileage its only 30kmpl….secondly it comes with a whopping price tag of Rs 90,000…..looks wise it’s great….certainly better than Karizma….the best part is the head-light which is certainly a head turner….i wonder why bajaj doesn’t do anything abt the indicators which protrude outwards both in the front and back…..sitting on the bike gives the feeling of sitting on a foreign bike.
But if we compare both these bikes on an overall scale i think Karizma would score over Bajaj….in terms of pricing, mileage, engine quality and other factors.

Hi Sanjeev…Recently i’ve got Karizma R…(just 4 days old)n i’m proud to own one…but wanna clear one doubt…it might be a silly question but still…i read ur complete review..n at the end ..u ‘ve mentioned not to drop the rpm below 2000 for optimum performance…while the showroom guy has asked me to maintain a steady rpm of 1500-2000rpm for initial 1000 km(i’ve never exceeded 40km/hr)..need some advice on this…n also lemme know the drawbacks ,if i keep the rpm below 2000…also looking for decent mileage….One more thing …
If im in neutral n as soon as i step-dn to 1st gear..it sometimes again goes to neutral (it happened thrice with me)…so sometimes while starting i’ve move the gear lever to 2nd n then in 1st b4 getiing into the motion.(Is it ’cause i’m still getting adjusted to the gear shift of Karizma…well to be honest i’m riding a bike after a gap of 4 years, n i used to ride Samurai b4)
Please need some advice…n I’m really happy with the ride quality of my new Karizma!

It feels like bajaj is ever ready to rape its existing customers with a complete overhaul of their bikes.
Also its just not about the looks. How can you expect the bajaj to beat the technology of Honda……shit!
Its India and blind following is a religion here. Even to this day old CBZ works and looks much better than a shitty old pulsar.
I will not say bikes are safe, but at least from my persoanl experience I believe HH bikes are more stable and reliable and smooth. Everything else is just crap. Nothing really matter, gizmos dont matter. Ride matters.
Even to this day Karizma does feel so lush and new.

I Dont Understand why u Guys Blame Pulsar or Bajaj.
I have been Using Pulsar 150 from Dec 2002 to till date and my bike has clocked 85000 km.
Could you guys Believe it
Till now
Very less repairs
No Engine rework done
Chain has been changed once
Tyres twice
Thats it with regular servicing
Even Today after clocking 85000 km
I can bet that i could beat any HH product except karizma with a old 12 bhp pulsar where as the new once are above 13.5 bhp.
Pulsar might have some drawbacks but not bad compared to HH or Honda
Pulsar is one of the best bikes and i would not mind calling it a master peice.
have any one looked at the front of Xtreme. it looks like a S H I I T ***
Xtreme is not comparabale with PULSAR

@AKKI:
I got 45kmpl riding it at a constant speed of 50kmph and never revving above 3000rpm in any gear. And I never ever revved the bike up. Even morning starts were done revving the bike to 3000rpm for 2 minutes before making a move.
Maybe you could try it out and you will be surprised to see that your Karizma can also give you the fuel economy I had talked about. Since fitting my newer broader tires, I’ve been getting a steady 33-35kmpl every single time no matter how hard I rev her up or punish her.
@ Krishna Kanth:
See, you’ve got a Pulsar that is recognisable in public. People buying a Pulsar today are buying bikes that they cannot differentiate between variants themselves.
Look at the common taillights and designs. And they make changes to their external design once a month. By the time your bike crosses 1000km, your bike is already a generation old. That doesn’t happen with Hero Honda bikes because they’re made to last the distance and even more without any fuss. And mate, Hero Honda has the best service backing in the country. And they aren’t Number 1 in the world for no reason. And you take the Hero Honda Splendor, it has been the most selling bike that ever has been made. It still sells, I tell you. Just that a few alternatives have arrived, it has lost some sales volume to those variants. And my friend owns a Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi, he has been servicing his bike very regularly, but his gearbox is like shit and the engine sounds as it there is some hungry lion stuck inside for no reason at all. And it is as harsh as trying to ride a cycle with its chain not oiled properly.
And for the records, I’ve not compared the Xtreme to the Pulsar at any point on my post.

well i bought a new zma-R….. used to dream of owning this bike since 2005…. telling u all frankly…. the gear shift n revving is amazing… better than any existing pulsars… especially the gear shift… no false gears as in pulsars…. another fact is that this is the fastest acclerating bike
(0-60… a few drawbacks i feel is
- the thin rear wheel….
- no tubeless tyres yet
- delicate plastc fairing and visor…
apart from these its an amazing 223cc bike. i would suggest to go for the Ultimate Karizma R… it ll still rule n reign for ever with the previlage of being the FIRST INDIAN QUARTER_LITRE SPORT BIKE… Although the compeition gets tougher.

KARRRRIZZZZMMMMAAA Rocks well other bike sucks, except Yamaha its ultimate enemy. I am from Nepal. Take my word, PUlsar and other products from Bajaj cannot give a powerfull pickups over the up hill and has poor handling and trunings. Well Kraizma seems to overcome all these. I have taken my bike to China and to the remote high hill places in my country. It is truly a King Among Indian Bikes That Rocks. I Love Karizma. I am dying for Karizma 250CC NOw.

I own a karizma 2006 version it has the k & n filter a free flow exhaust and ngk iridium spark plugs and the rear tyre to 120/90 and a few other performance upgrades, my bike gives no mileage but sheer performance and beats a stock karizma very easily.
But sadly i had a drag with a p220 (stock) and believe me at the end my speedo showed 136kmph(133 on speed gun) and the P220 was way too ahead to catch and it was 142 on the speed gun even the initial acceleration on the p220 was way better. At the end i came 2nd out of 5 guys 1st p220 3rd p200 stock gave tough competition to me really tough 4th karizma stock 5th karizma stock.
The p220 got a lead of 1.2 seconds on me, whereas the p200 was just 0.2 seconds behind me, although i could have lost if the p200 rider knew how to crouch
guys the new beasts from the stables of bajaj are really sweet especially the p220 which indeed kicks karizma’s ass really hard.
I am thinking of selling my bike and shifting towards the p220 and wud advise ANYBODY to go for the p220 the extra money is worth spending.
One think i wud like to point is tat if you own a karizma you automatically get biased and you feel its way better than the p220 but the truth is tat the p220 is the king right now.
Dont believe just ride a p220 once and you will get to know yourself

I own the latest R variant of the Karizma purchased on January 5, & i am not happy with my bike one bit. I like its overall performance. That is it. The company fabrication is very cheap. It damages at the slightest stress. I had never experienced any problem with the previous version that i owned for over Two years. My old one returned 40-45 Km/l mileage. My new one has only 20Km/l even after the 3rd service.
i would like to know what all i can do to get optimum mileage for my bike. I would also like to know the cost of replacing the body parts of my bike cause the stock parts are worth nothing. They were damaged only when three persons got on my bike for a 4 KM journey. The same that did noting to my old bike.
Thanks.

Hi there
guys i have a pulsar180 and a karizma. both have done more than 20k.
I have rode both the beauties in varied conditions. it is true that kzma is able to deliver the additional punch that we dare devils crave for. but my pulsar is not far behind. I have made certain mods to my pulsar and it can really beat the kzma in terms of performance.
Pulsarians out there if u really need to smoke a kzma u need to spend some on it. Wat i did was
1 replaced stock exhaust with micron race exhaust
2 replaced stock spark with platinum plugs
3 replaced stock filter with K&N per filter
usually my kzma used to be the eye catcher in my town but now my modf pulsar is the show stopper

i heard that karizma is comming with fuel injection tecnology
Sanjeev said
I don’t think that a FUel INjected Karizma is coming in the near future…….. Honda has freezed all engine developments for Hero-Honda. And have asked to concentrate on the sub 250cc category…… SO all talks of a 300cc+ bike from HH coming is a rumour and there is not even a .00000000001% possibility of it coming….. If you want to expect something, expect the FZ150 from Yamaha coming this November…… It’s a naked 150cc bike….. It is under testing now……….

Sanjeev said
As of now, Irfan, There is no new variant of the Karizma coming out into the market…. It looks like Honda and Yamaha will be bringing new 150cc bikes into the market. Apart from that, I don’t know of any other new bike coming to the market within the next couple of months or more……

Sanjeev said
If you are looking for service back up and reliability and well established norms on styling and performance, go for the Hero Honda Karizma. Or if you want a bike that has power but lesser reliability and comes cheaper, go for the Pulsar 220 DTSFi. There is not much of a difference in the pricing of either bike, but it’s your take on what you choose. Check out the Yamaha FZ16 also…. It looks superb but it is priced on the higher side for a 150cc segment bike.

Hi guys, I had exprience with bajaj bikes calliber and now discover they are satisfactory but not really fantastic in performance as compare to HH bikes, HH Karizma i think best in its class for speed lovers & when you are talking about speed no any other thing should come in mind, Karizma is a best combnation of speed, style & comfort, My wish to take a krizma when 1st time i saw launched & nw 2009 is the time to fullfill this.
Buddy, Is this is true that karizma with new modification launching in 2009. KARIZMA IS THE KING OF BIKES….. GO FOR IT AND FEEL THE DIFFERENCE.

@Mohammed:
Nope, 200kmph isn’t possible on any Indian bike. . . .

@ ALL:
Karizma PGMFi has launched and as far as looks go, it’s far better looking than the older version because of the full fairing and the stunning white paint job on offer!!!!!
I personally don’t like the front headlight design though!!!! Speedo dials are good. . . . .
Looks more aggressive, although the silencer ought to have been designed better than it has been!!!!
The old silencer used to make the Karizma more stunning!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Speed Demon. . . .
